Ss400 is a way of marking Japanese steel material, is a judgment standard, equivalent to the domestic Q235 steel (also known as A3 steel). Foreign standard structural steels are often classified according to tensile strength, such as SS400 (labeled as such in Japan), where 400 means the minimum value of σ B is 400 Mpa. Ultra-high strength steels are those with σ B ≥1373 Mpa.

SS400 is basically equivalent to China's Q235(equivalent to Q235A). However, there are differences in specific indicators. Q235 requires the content of C, Si, Mn, S, P and other elements, while SS400 only requires S and P less than 0.050. The yield point of Q235 is greater than 235 MPa, while that of SS400 is 245MPa. SS400 (Steel for General Structure) means steel with tensile strength greater than 400MPa for general structure. Q235 means ordinary carbon structural steel with yield point greater than 235MPa. SS400 is JIS G3101. The standard number of Q235 is GB/T700.
Ss400 is a way of marking Japanese steel, in fact, is the domestic Q235 steel. It's a kind of steel material. Q represents the yield of this material, and 235 is the yield value of this material, which is around 235. And the yield value will decrease with the increase of material thickness. Because the carbon content is moderate, the comprehensive performance is better, the strength, plasticity and welding performance is better match, the most widely used. Often rolled into rod or round steel, square steel, flat steel, Angle steel, I-beam, channel steel, window frame steel and other sections, thick steel plate. Widely used in construction and engineering structures. It is used for making steel bars or building workshop frames, high voltage transmission towers, Bridges, vehicles, boilers, containers, ships, etc., and also a large number of mechanical parts with low performance requirements. Grade C and D steel can also be used for some special steels.
